Bridging Cultures with Intercultural Communication
This course aims to equip international students with a comprehensive understanding of intercultural communication within diverse contexts. Through theoretical insights and practical applications, students will delve into the complexities of communication across cultures, focusing on four main themes:
- Intercultural Communication and (Social) Media
- Intercultural Communication and (Digital) Business
- Intercultural Communication and Health
- Intercultural Communication and Intersectionality
Programme
Through a week of online lectures and a week of face-to-face sessions, students will explore foundational theories and frameworks in intercultural communication, gaining insights into cultural dimensions, communication styles, and the impact of globalization on interpersonal interactions. They will analyze case studies and engage in discussions to deepen their understanding of cross-cultural communication dynamics.
The course will employ a multifaceted approach to achieve its objectives. Online lectures will provide students with theoretical foundations, offering an overview of key concepts and research findings in intercultural communication.
In face-to-face sessions, students will participate in work sessions focused on the four main themes. They will collaborate on projects, conduct case analyses, and engage in role-playing exercises to apply theoretical concepts to real-world scenarios. By working closely with peers from diverse cultural backgrounds, students will develop cross-cultural competence and enhance their ability to navigate intercultural communication challenges.
